in global efforts to fight climate change. It can be produced from various sources, including renewables such as solar and wind, and used as a net-zero energy carrier or fuel. Hydrogen is key and will be a solution to many of the world\u2019s climate neutrality objectives: it unleashes the potential of renewables, ensures <span id=\"page252R_mcid446\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">energy system efficiency, and enables a carbon-<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid447\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">neutral transport system, both on land and sea.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid448\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page252R_mcid448\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">By using hydrogen technologies, we can con<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid450\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">tribute to the decarbonization of economies,\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid451\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">notably within industry and transport, thus making <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid452\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">renewables relevant in new areas not accessible <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid453\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in the past. It can also replace coal, oil, and gas <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid454\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">by being a renewably produced energy vector, <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid455\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">fuel, and chemical feedstock. <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid455\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Furthermore, it <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid456\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">boosts the use of electricity generated from <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid457\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">renewable power and makes the energy system <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid458\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of the future more efficient.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid459\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page252R_mcid459\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">We already see the change happening: the world\u2019s <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid460\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">first passenger train powered by a hydrogen fuel <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid461\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">cell is already running on German railways. The <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid462\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">world\u2019s first green steel made with hydrogen <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid463\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">production was delivered in Sweden. These are <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid464\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">just a few examples. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page252R_mcid465\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Europe is already home to the electrolyser <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid466\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">technology, capable of producing significant <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid467\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">amounts of green hydrogen to power industries <span id=\"page252R_mcid468\" class=\"markedContent\">and homes. What is left then?<\/span><\/span><\/h3><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-5\" style=\"color:#000000;\"><p><span id=\"page252R_mcid474\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">For hydrogen to become a commercial success, <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid475\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">European and global decision-makers need to <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid476\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">develop regulatory and policy incentives for clean <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid477\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">hydrogen technologies to scale up and cut costs.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page252R_mcid478\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">COP26 is a chance for Europe to demonstrate its <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid479\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">leadership in building a clean hydrogen economy <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid480\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and prove its ambition to become the showcase <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid481\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and benchmark of a global hydrogen revolution.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page252R_mcid482\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Clear policy incentives for hydrogen develop<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid484\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ment will give a major push to fighting climate <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid485\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">change across all continents. In Europe, this will <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid486\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">power the green transformation, create future <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid487\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">European jobs and secure a clean energy future <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page252R_mcid488\"
